“This is hate speech at its worst”

I have no desire to get into a major argument about the conflict between Israel and Palestinians, but I will. I’ve made great friends on both sides and appreciate my connections very much. Neither side is squeaky clean in the long history between them. My goal would be to move forward and help find a fair solution for Israelis and Palestinians, if I could.

However, I do not agree with the Israeli “policy” where Palestinian women and children are denied food and urgently needed medication… as a “policy.”

Withholding food and medication is not “antisemitism”… it is against common sense and respect for human life.

This is not a “Jewish policy,” this is an “Israeli Government Policy.” There is no “religious” aspect to it.

Below is a message sent to me this morning in my email:

Your comments on Jews is outrageous and disgusting This is hate speech at its worst. I will be referring your comments to the authorities to investigate a hate crime against you. You’re a vicious antisemite and your comments are disturbing and disgraceful. You are obviously not a well informed man and that fact you make no mention of the horrible Oct 7 attack shows your complete ignorance. You should be ashamed of yourself and I shall be contacting my mp to make a hate crime complaint. Shame on you antisemite.

Lawrence Israelson
Obviously, the Mr. Israelson did not read my blog, which says:

No one denies Israel the right to protect itself. No one denies Israel the right to extract punishment for the October 7th murderous attack on innocent Israelis. No one denies Israel the right to eliminate Hamas and retrieve the Israeli hostages.

I have no idea where the writer, Lawrence Israelson, lives, but it always struck me that Canadians are more polarized on this issue than the people in the Middle East. One time, I was in the lobby of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, and there was this huge animated argument between Israelis and Palestinians. People gathered around and watched this display of anger and hate. At the end of this argument, I was told by embassy staff that both participants were Canadians!

Most citizens of Israel, whom I have encountered, want a peaceful resolution, and they want it now. They do not want to send their sons and daughters into harm’s wayas soldiers, where many are now being killed and injured. They are just following the orders from Israeli leaders.

Most citizens of Israel that I have encountered do not want to live with the threat of abductions and violence. It is the opinion of most experts that a “Two-State Solution” is the only way to eliminate those threats. If such a “Two-State Solution” were ever adopted, the whole world would stand behind Israel to make sure that threats from outside were eliminated. Israel might become the safest place on the planet.
